LOTN - 'Enchanted' (Review)

Lipstick number two out of the three that I purchased from the Intense Collection by SACHA. In my last post I talked about the texture etc.. and I also mentioned why I absolutely love these lippies. So this post is just to show how the colour ‘Enchanted’ actually looks. Here it’s paired with L.A. Colours eye liner in ‘P615 Violet’

LOTN – ‘Wicked’ (Review)

By now you've heard about the Intense Collection by Sacha. It consists of six intense matte lipsticks. On my lips, on the left is ‘wicked’ my absolute favourite of all the colours, so of course I tried this baby first. It’s a medium shade brown but buildable to a dark brown. Although it’s matte it’s not drying on your lips, which is one of the things I appreciate most about it. They’re scented, smells like a strawberry, cherry type mix, $40.00 and can be found at any Sacha Image Centre and/or Pennywise Store Nationwide.  All in all I love this collection, Sacha out did themselves once again.  Below is a closer view of this entire makeup look as well as swatches of the different colours I did at Price Plaza Image Centre (minus 'ex in the city') I don't know how I missed that one, will be going back to get it though and the three lippies of the collection I have thus far.

The Art of Accessorizing

Just like bad choices of accessories can ruin an otherwise perfectly put together outfit, a knowledgeable choice can make an ordinary outfit fabulous. (It’s easier than you think, trust me) A few simple guidelines to keep in mind while putting your outfit together to make it stand out. Shoes and handbags are the two most important accessories you will ever own . Choose them carefully. They don’t necessarily have to match as that may lead to a monotonous look; they more so should be harmonized with each other, this usually means ensuring there’s some common element or theme between the accessories and the outfit. (This could be choosing pieces of similar hue, texture, style or design element) Perfect e.g. if you’re wearing a if you’re wearing a light coloured, light weight ‘summer’ dress, you may want to choose a light coloured, strappy sandals rather than a dark coloured, heavy sandals. The same applies to choosing a handbag.

MOTN

Disclaimer : I am in no form or fashion a professional makeup artist nor have I ever claimed to be. I’m just a girl who decided to love make-up J I simply adore natural looking make-up, the type of make-up that enhances your features and make you glow. I use to dislike my eyes and lips and never liked wearing eye shadow or lipstick but then I fell in love with myself and realized that I can only be me and I’m going to have to work with what I have (lol). “It’s your differences that make you unique.” If you want to know what products I used to create this look please keep reading.

My Closet Favourite – October (DIY Boyfriend Jeans)

Distressed Jeans have been in for a minute and I’m feeling it, you can tell. The ripped, worn-out style in a variety of washes is being seen everywhere.  If you’re looking for a relaxed, ultra-easy chic style distressed jeans are definitely the way to go. The absolute best part is they can be worn in a number of different ways. You can pair them with a fitted tee and converse for an edgy outdoor appearance, you can dress it up with strappy heels, a blazer, and statement accessories, and you can also style them with a crop top and a pair of wedges. The key is a balanced juxtaposition! If you want to see how I styled my ‘bf jeans’ please keep reading.

Ten things about makeup I wish I knew sooner!

I wish I knew…..      1.      That foundation is supposed to be matched to my undertone first and my complexion second. The mistake that’s often made is choosing a foundation based on how light or dark you are when we should be looking at our undertones.  Our undertones are either neutral, warm or cool.      2.      The importance of my eyebrows and how they can enhance my appearance by flattering my facial shape, balancing my features, and framing my eyes and the correct way to shape, and fill them in 3.   That the more expensive a product does not necessarily mean the better it works. The products I choose should be dependent on the needs of my skin and the effect that I want.

Some things to take into consideration when starting your personal makeup kit!

In my opinion the easiest way to start a makeup kit is to actually want to do it and not just do it because everyone else is doing it, since it takes a lot of time and effort. It’s also important to remember no one was born knowing how to apply makeup, it’s a process so be patient with yourself. There are those women who prefer to not wear makeup and that’s quite fine but for the ladies who are into makeup and have been thinking about how to go about starting a kit please keep reading. The first thing that should be taken into consideration for this type of project is research. It is better to walk into a beauty supply store having an idea of what you want or need than being completely clueless because from my experience not all beauty CSR’s are appropriately trained. Youtube has been a great source of help for me. I will post the links below to some of the channels that has been instrumental in helping me with makeup.

Makeup Haul!!!

Sorry that I haven’t been posting very much lately, life has been happening lol. I promise to pick up the slack though and post at least three times per week , I haven’t decided which days just yet but as soon as I figure it all out I’d let y’all know. As y’all may or may not have known I’m in the process of building my makeup kit so I'm always looking for products to add to it. I picked up some things in the last couple weeks and just thought I’d share. I've linked where I got the products below and if you guys have any questions feel free to comment below as well. For my face I picked up: ·         E.l.f  mineral face primer ·         Sacha Matte Face Powder in Perfectly Translucent - been meaning to try a translucent powder for the longest, my best friend recommended this one (Oh hey Jisanne) Lol ·          Sacha Blush in Shame Cinnamon – this is really pigmented so a little goes a long way.

The Power of ‘Nude’

When I think of the word nude different shades of ‘beiges’, ‘tans’ and ‘pale peaches’ come to mind.   In fashion, the word is most often used to describe a shade that is a little darker than champagne, lighter than sand and perhaps with a hint of blush or peach.  Fashion also states that ‘nude’ is no one colour stating that the word derived in relation to skin tones and there is no one skin tone. “There's more than one shade of skin and, in its current incarnation, nude runs from those palest pinks through to deep sunburnt apricots and peaches, passing through a range of beiges and caramel.” I am obsessed with nude hues. I believe although it’s neutral it still has the ability to add definition to an outfit. I also believe in having something nude, if at least one piece in every section of your closet. A pair of nude pumps and/or wedges, nude flats, a nude lipstick, a nude clutch/and or hand bag, nude nail polish and of course nude clothing (which is any colour from pa

NEW PRODUCT ALERT!! Cool Sacha Products!

Buttercup Setting Powder (Ben Nye Banana Powder Dupe) For some strange reason, I always thought that the more expensive a product the better it works. I’ve come to learn that this isn’t always the case and I’m ever so grateful for that lesson. I passed through Sacha’s Image Centre Price Plaza the other day to get the ‘Butter Cup Setting Powder’ after hearing great reviews about it. It’s a setting powder and is being compared to the Ben Nye Banana Powder. I’m always looking for a good dupe and this baby right here works just as good as or even better than the Ben Nye. It can be used all over the face but I just use it under my eyes for highlighting purposes. It’s really fine milled and it’s almost as if it melts into your foundation and it photographs nicely. Sacha has definitely out done themselves with this one. It cost me just $60TT which is a lot less than the Ben Nye Banana Powder and you can get it at any Sacha Store Nationwide. It is an amazing product; trust me!

Jordanna Lipstick Mini Haul

From left Mauve, Hot Pink, Plum Obsession & Radiant Red Finally getting around to doing this! It’s no secret that I am a lipstick fanatic so of course I went to the mall and ended up getting some pretty Jordanna lip colours and I just thought I’d share.  What I like about these lipsticks the most are not only are they affordable but they’re durable too. Jordanna comes in handy for everyday use like work etc; I also use them for evening and night glam depending on what lipstick I need.  Once they’re set properly (lip liner etc) they look gorgeous and they last a good couple of hours. I picked up three regular colours (in the silver packaging) and one matte colour (in the gold packaging). I’m not a big fan of matte lipsticks because sometimes they can be extra drying on your lips and crack but I tried this one and it’s not overly drying. It’s matte but with some moisture which I love.

Blush Basics 101

Swatches of a few of the blushes that I use (all powders) Notice the colours don't really stand out, they more blend in. I have a warm undertone, so the colours that works the  most magic on me are yellow based pinks, corals and peaches.  What does blush actually do? It gives you the ‘perfect glow’. "When your cheeks have healthy color, your complexion looks more radiant."  Below are a couple of things to take into consideration when choosing, purchasing and applying blush. 1. Getting the correct shade Which shade will work magic on you? Getting the correct shade and colour blush for your complexion is the most important step. For olive skin, this usually has a warm undertone, think warm — peach and copper. If you're fair with a cool undertone, your best bets are natural pinks ranging from pale to a rosy hue. Tip: Shimmer free colours look more natural.

Take care of your feet so they can take care of you!

Of course everyone would love if they can go to the spa and have a pedicure done every week, fact is most of us can’t for different reasons, whatever they might be. I am obsessed with DIY remedies & projects, so giving myself a pedicure at home ever so often is never really an issue. Taking care of your feet may seem trivial until those babies start to act up. Taking care of your feet is very important because they absorb the impact of your full body weight with every step, keeping you balanced and upright in the process. Some foot problems that can plague your feet are foot odor, cracked skin, fallen arches, corns, ingrown toenails, fungal infections and even damaged bones can cause discomfort and reduced mobility. While some of these problems are congenital, you can avoid many of them with a little TLC. The best way to keep your feet healthy is a simple regimen of daily care that will help keep your toes, toe nails, the skin, bones and muscles of your feet clean and functio

Three must have beauty products this summer!

Garnier BB Cream & EOS Lip Balm #frontcamera #nofilter  It’s no surprise that I love makeup, so I’m always out looking for new products to experiment with. Two of these three products were introduced to me by my girlfriend and the third one is just something that’s been trending a couple years now. I came across the first product while at my girlfriends’ house, as y’all may know I’ve been doing the hair extensions thing a few months now. I love my extensions light weight & ‘flowy’ so I avoided putting oil based products in it, until I discovered KERATIN, Brazillian Tech by one ‘n only. I got it at pennywise & it was only $36.95. A coin size amount in the palm of your hands, rub it together & evenly distribute it through the hair and I instantly fell in love. It’s a treatment with pequi oil for straightened, permed or colour-treated hair so of course it can be used on your natural hair too. This literally gives my extensions life. I use it once every couple o

Local Designers Mini Series - Getting to know Anicia Brooks

The local fashion scene has been quietly moving drastically forward over the past couple of years. A number of upcoming designers have started making their mark on the industry and I am honored to share some of their stories with you. Our first feature goes to one of our many fresh and upcoming local designers Anicia Brooks. Getting to know Anicia Brooks Anicia Brooks is a young and vibrant upcoming designer based in La Romain, Trinidad registered under the name “Anibrook “. Anicia first got involved in fashion designing because her dream job ever since she was a little girl was to become a fashion designer. Over the years the dream grew which lead her to UTT (Caribbean Academy of Fashion Design) where she obtained a Bachelors of Fine Art in Fashion Design. The quote "I can work to fulfill someone else's dreams or I can work hard and fulfill my own” had a key part to play in influencing Anicia’s decision to work on her own. She plans to work hard as she is now aware

What's in my make-up bag!

My beloved makeup bag  <3 Okay so I finally got around to doing this (lol). Before I proceed let me just say that I am not a professional make-up artiste or have I ever claimed to be. I am a beauty enthusiast and blogger which in a little less fancy words, is someone who has a passion for all things makeup and blogs. I love make-up, I love trying new products and I loving sharing what I learn, it’s that simple. My make-up bag is far from having everything that I wish I could have but I purchase things as I go along according to what my finances can manage because y’all already know good make-up ain't cheap. Oh and yes I do have lip & eyeliners but I don't carry them in make-up bag unless, it's what I used that particular day. Having all in my make-up bag makes me lose them :(. I do also have a smaller make-up bag that I carry everyday for work etc. which contains just a face powder & powder brush, blush & blush brush, lipstick I'm wearing that

Lipstick Love – Everything you need to know about lipstick/Milani review

Many women don’t feel confident about wearing a bright shade of lipstick on their lips. But what only makeup artists and a few women know is that lipstick can make the lips very alluring if applied correctly. I went out & got a few Milani colours after I heard everyone on you tube raving about it. I was very careful in choosing my colours and well this is what I came up with.  If you've decided you’re going to wear lipstick, there are a couple of things you should know: Wearing your lipstick with other makeup – If you’re going to wear dark lipstick, keep your eye makeup light; if you are playing up the eyes, keep your mouth light with a gloss or light lip colour that doesn't stand out. Choosing the right shade of lipstick for yourself – This is where knowing your undertone comes in again. Warm toned women like me stand out in yellow/orange based colours like corals, orange reds, peaches, browns, whereas cool toned women stand out in pink/blue based colou

A simple guide to becoming fashion forward

Becoming fashion forward sounds a lot harder than it actually is. It only takes making a few basic adjustments and your well on your way to looking and feeling better about yourself. Fashion is and has always been a repeat of itself; style is and has always been what you make of fashion. ü   I’m sure you’re on social media, if you are like and/or follow a couple fashion/beauty pages to keep you abreast with what’s happening in the ever so changing fashion/beauty world. If you’re not on social media you can check out newspapers, magazines and blogs. ü   There is a difference between being inspired and copying a look, know it. Copying someone’s look has a slim chance of working to your advantage just because of the fact that everyone is different and was made in his/her own image and liking. It’s very okay to be inspired by a look and tweak it to suit your needs. ü   Do not wear what you are not confident or comfortable in. ü   Dress for your body, not age. Legs ton

10 Fashion Tips For Caribbean Girls Before Going Shopping

Shopping can be a drag for some people and for others like me it can be good therapy. Not putting the right amount of effort into buying clothes for you is one of the biggest mistakes women make. Remember the first impression is always the lasting impression someone has of you and while you may not be a celebrity or under public scrutiny it still is a good idea to try to put your best foot forward in terms of presenting yourself, and what a better way to start? ü   If you happen to find an especially flattering fit right off the rack, go ahead and buy doubles (in different colours obviously). When it works, why question it? ü   Jeans & T-shirts are without a doubt going to be worn at some point. The secret formula for a soft but formfitting T is 95% cotton, 5% Lycra spandex. For jeans to hold their shape, they need at least 2% Lycra. ü   A proper fitting bra is the difference between a frumpy, unorganized look and a shapely, structured look. The right bra will a

Bunji Garlin’s Most 6 Stylish Moments

Trinidad & Tobago has picked up the pace and is growing with the global fashion industry. Our celebrities locally have not failed us in representing our culture along with showing a sense of style. It's been an interesting couple of years for men's style globally; especially where entertainment and media is concerned, consequently there's never been a better time for guys to want to learn how to dress well. Clothes certainly don’t make the man. But they do make him better. This brings me to male local celebrity, Ian Alvarez better known by his stage name Bunji Garlin. Holder of Trinidad & Tobago’s first Soul Train Award for Best International Performance for the song "Differentology", Bunji Garlin has grown as an artiste and so to has his sense of style. Bunji’s fashion statements I can assure you has not gone unnoticed and as a result I couldn't help but highlight his 6 most stylish moments. #6  At #6 Bunji rocks a softer look than usual in

Facial care tips for men

Guys I know y’all love to front about skin care products but the fact of the matter is us females loves us some nice, smooth skin we can lay up on. *lol* Just because you're a man, doesn't mean its okay to neglect facial or skin care. 5 Steps Towards Healthy, Handsome Facial Skin: 1) Cleansing your face - It’s important to have a gentle cleanser that will cleanse the skin from the dirt and oil that can accumulate. Just because you can’t see the dirt and grime on your skin, doesn't mean that it isn't there. Regular bar soaps tend to contain detergents and deodorizers that can be very harsh and dehydrating to the skin. A good facial cleanser is what you need. Most skin care brands have a line for men these days. Some good ones to try and available locally are Nivea for men, Neutrogena for men, Cetaphil and Dove for men just to name a few. 2) Exfoliating – Exfoliating is just is fancy word for removing dead skin. You may not know this but our skin exfoliat

Make-up brushes 101 – everything there is to know about brushes

Wow! Where do I start? Make-up brushes are the most important aspect of proper make-up application. You may not be able to afford high end make-up but if you have the correct brushes, your regular make-up can look just as flawless. Synthetic Make-up Brushes vs. Animal Hair Brushes Synthetic make-up brushes as the name indicates are made from synthetic fiber, synthetic brushes don’t hold on to pigment as well as animal hair brushes, making them easier to wash. Synthetic brushes lack the natural pores that animal hair brushes have and thus don’t hold onto the pigments as well. They literally take the product from the container straight to your face, so basically they don’t waste your products. They are also typically hypoallergenic. Animal Hair Make-up Brushes One of the benefits of using animal hair for makeup brushes is the fact that animal brushes pick up more product. When these bristles are used to pick up makeup, they are able to hold it better because it is held in

Fashion Trends - The inside scoop to wearing print clothing (leopard, floral & tribal/aztec)

It’s 2014 and prints are definitely in, so it’s a smart thing to know how to wear them. Aztec or Tribal, Animal and Floral prints. I don’t think that there are any particular rules but rather some simple guidelines that can be followed to achieve a cohesive look. Having prints in your wardrobe can be very useful as it’s a good way to put together multiple outfits using the same item. -      First thing to keep in mind when wearing any type of print is ‘Less is more’. Let the pattern be your main focal point. -                 Prints are an easy way to add texture and style to your look, be sure to not clash it with other patterns until you have perfected the art of mixing prints and have the gut to pull it off.  As you advance, you can strategically include other patterns, but tread carefully if you’re just learning. -           The simplest way to wear print is a one piece printed outfit. (Dress, romper etc.) Of course solid shoe, bag and light accessories will

Taking Care of my Virgin Brazilian Extensions

So I got extensions *big smile*. I absolutely love my natural hair but like everything else I needed a change and my hair needed rest.  I haven’t had extensions in a little over a year so it took a little getting used to; I was a bit late with the recent virgin hair craze that recently took over Trinidad obviously, however I checked around and decided to get 14” to 16” Virgin Brazilian Body Wave in Natural Black. I've had it in close to four weeks now. At first I wasn't sure how to take care of it etc but I did some research and I played around with it and I think I have a pretty good handle on it now. Washing – So far I've co-washed it three times using Motions Moisture Plus conditioner.  I try to wash it on weekends, early in the day so I can let it air dry. Co-washing means washing the hair with conditioner only. Heat – I try not to blow dry, curl iron or flat iron the hair. I stay away from electronic heat as much as possible. Setting – For settin
