Some things to take into consideration when starting your personal makeup kit!

In my opinion the easiest way to start a makeup kit is to actually want to do it and not just do it because everyone else is doing it, since it takes a lot of time and effort. It’s also important to remember no one was born knowing how to apply makeup, it’s a process so be patient with yourself. There are those women who prefer to not wear makeup and that’s quite fine but for the ladies who are into makeup and have been thinking about how to go about starting a kit please keep reading.

The first thing that should be taken into consideration for this type of project is research. It is better to walk into a beauty supply store having an idea of what you want or need than being completely clueless because from my experience not all beauty CSR’s are appropriately trained. Youtube has been a great source of help for me. I will post the links below to some of the channels that has been instrumental in helping me with makeup.

This step will solely depends on the individual building the kit. Things to consider in this step would be:  The cost of products; how much are you willing to spend on makeup? When you decide on your budget you will know if you can afford high end makeup or what the US calls ‘drugstore makeup’. NB: Not because its high end makeup means that it works better, makeup mostly depends on your skin and its needs. I personally know of cheaper brands that work way better than the pricier ones.

What type of makeup would you need? Do you have dry skin, oily skin or combination skin? Do you have acne? Do you have dark scars? These questions will determine what type of primer and foundation you will need. These questions will also determine what type of coverage you will need. Will you need light to medium coverage or medium to full coverage? What is your complexion and undertone? This question will determine what shade of foundation, powder, blush, eye shadow and lipstick will stand out better on you.

The basic brushes you will need to complete a full face of makeup are:
Face brushes: A brush to apply foundation, one for powder, a blush and contour brush (brushes are usually labeled which makes choosing them a bit easier)
Eye brushes: Eye shadow brush, pencil brush, blending /fluffy brush, two angled brushes (one for gel liners and one for eyebrows sculpting)
Lip brush: To apply lipstick, gloss etc

The basic products you will need to complete a full face of makeup are:
Face primer (to hold your foundation in place, philips milk of magnesia works just as good as a face primer itself)
Foundation (be sure this matches your skin tone properly and gives your skin the coverage it needs)
Face powder (to set your foundation, this can either be a shaded or translucent powder, loose or compact powder)
Blush (to give your face a glow, if you have a warm undertone a coral pink will best compliment your skin and if you have a cool undertone a light pink will work best for you)
Bronzer and highlighter (to make your cheekbones pop)
Concealer (this should be 1 to 2 shades darker than your skin tone, for defining your brows and highlighting under your eyes)
Contour kit (a dark brown eye shadow can be used)
Eye shadow base (to ensure your eye shadow lasts as well as to make them stand out, however a concealer can be used)
Eyeshadow palette (a palette will multiple colours is great for starting off)
Black and brown gel and/or liquid liner
Black and brown eye pencils
Lip liners of your choice
Lipstick and lip gloss of your choice

Correct Way to Exfoliate Your Skin: Step-by-Step

As we age, the process of cell regeneration slows down. This means that the body is slower to shed skin cells and generate new ones. When old skin cells start to pile up on the surface of the skin, it can leave skin looking dull, rough, and dry. Furthermore, the build-up of dead skin cells can result in excess oil and clogged pores, leading to blemishes and acne. Proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for moisturizing products to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them more effective. In short, a regular exfoliating routine will leave your skin looking fresh and healthy. Remove make-up - If you wear makeup, remove makeup first, there are a lot of make-up removers currently on the market both liquid and wipes. However for a cheaper, more natural alternative coconut oil or olive oil can be used for both face and eye make-up and baby wipes can be used for those with sensitive

LOTN - 'Enchanted' (Review)

Lipstick number two out of the three that I purchased from the Intense Collection by SACHA. In my last post I talked about the texture etc.. and I also mentioned why I absolutely love these lippies. So this post is just to show how the colour ‘Enchanted’ actually looks. Here it’s paired with L.A. Colours eye liner in ‘P615 Violet’

My addiction (make-up haul)

Since school is out and there’s no traffic, I've had extra time to browse around beauty supply stores before and after work (don’t ask lol). So far this week I’ve been able to pick up a few things that I’ve been meaning to get for a while now. I haven’t gotten a chance to use any of these babies yet but I promise as soon as I do I will post my reviews. NYX Mosaic Powder Blush in CafĂ© – I saw this and instantly fell in love.  I love that this is mild and not too pigmented, it’s perfect for giving me that gorgeous glowing finish that I’m obsessed with. NYX HD High Definition Eye Shadow Base – I came across a review about this particular product on youtube and decided to give it a try. I haven’t gotten the Urban Decay Primer (that everyone has been raving about) as yet so I would use this in the interim. Milani Lipstick in the colour Sweet Nectar – This a bright orange lip colour that I kept putting off getting, not too sure why though because orange is one of the
