The Secret to How to Wear Colour – Choosing the right colours for yourself

Identify your undertone - There are many different shades of skin, but there are only two undertones. The simplest way to identify your undertone is to turn your hand over, palm up, taking a look at the underside of your wrist. What color are the veins? If they look blue or purple, you're cool toned. If they look green or have a yellow cast, you're warm toned. So basically your undertone is what determines what colours look best on you.

A cool toned person looks best in what we call "cool" colors like white, black, royal blue, gray, navy, etc. Think of colors that remind you of water, sea, and sky. When in doubt, you can't go wrong with one of these. When it comes to metallics, silver is your go-to. Whilst a warm tone person look beautiful in "earthy" shades like burnt orange, cream, saturated sunny yellow, brown, dark leafy green, and that shade of red maple leaves turn when autumn comes your way. Taupe, heathered brown, and camel are also in your wheelhouse. Again, when in doubt, these are your basics. Heap on the yellow and rose gold, it'll make your skin glow.

Get to know the colour wheel – who would have thought I would have wanted to see a colour wheel after primary school right (lol). I looked at the colour wheel totally different after learning these amazing little tricks though. Ever notice when someone puts together two colors that you would never have thought looked good together? Chances are, she's up on her color wheel and knows her undertone. Color mixing is a huge trend for the past few years, so it's worth taking the time to understand how colors work off each other. If you split the color wheel in half with an invisible line, one side will be warm and the other cool. Super convenient.

Pick a color, any color. Trace your finger over that line to its direct opposite and you have two complementary colors, one warm and one cool. If they complement on the wheel, they'll look complement in your wardrobe. For your most flattering look, place the color that works best for your skin tone closest to your face and work the other color in further away. For example, if you're cool, choose the cool tone for your earrings, necklace, or top and the complementary warm tone for your bottom, shoes, or bag. Get it? Good.

Now, pick another color, any one. Look to the color directly to the left and to the right of it. These are the original color's analogous friends. If it's analogous on the color wheel, it works in your outfit. Here, you can stick to your side of the color wheel to ensure the best possible palette for your undertone.

So all in all, two undertones, two sides of the color wheel, get to know each and you'll be more confident in choosing something to wear next time you're in the store or just trying to choose something out of your wardrobe. Wearing the correct colour for your undertone and by extension your skin tone will immensely compliment your complexion and have you looking 10 times better and girls we haven't even talked about make-up yet *wink* so you can just imagine.

Jordanna Lipstick Mini Haul

From left Mauve, Hot Pink, Plum Obsession & Radiant Red Finally getting around to doing this! It’s no secret that I am a lipstick fanatic so of course I went to the mall and ended up getting some pretty Jordanna lip colours and I just thought I’d share.  What I like about these lipsticks the most are not only are they affordable but they’re durable too. Jordanna comes in handy for everyday use like work etc; I also use them for evening and night glam depending on what lipstick I need.  Once they’re set properly (lip liner etc) they look gorgeous and they last a good couple of hours. I picked up three regular colours (in the silver packaging) and one matte colour (in the gold packaging). I’m not a big fan of matte lipsticks because sometimes they can be extra drying on your lips and crack but I tried this one and it’s not overly drying. It’s matte but with some moisture which I love.
