10 Fashion Tips For Caribbean Girls Before Going Shopping

Shopping can be a drag for some people and for others like me it can be good therapy. Not putting the right amount of effort into buying clothes for you is one of the biggest mistakes women make. Remember the first impression is always the lasting impression someone has of you and while you may not be a celebrity or under public scrutiny it still is a good idea to try to put your best foot forward in terms of presenting yourself, and what a better way to start?

ü  If you happen to find an especially flattering fit right off the rack, go ahead and buy doubles (in different colours obviously). When it works, why question it?

ü  Jeans & T-shirts are without a doubt going to be worn at some point. The secret formula for a soft but formfitting T is 95% cotton, 5% Lycra spandex. For jeans to hold their shape, they need at least 2% Lycra.

ü  A proper fitting bra is the difference between a frumpy, unorganized look and a shapely, structured look. The right bra will add confidence and shape to any outfit.

ü  Caring for your delicate pieces. Before you buy that gorgeous blouse with the sequins or that lace dress, consider how it will hold up after a few washings. And do not, I repeat do not spend excessively on clothes you can’t or won’t take care of and by ‘take care of’ I mean hand wash.

ü  Own something leopard print and I’m not just saying this because I’m obsessed with leopard prints. Adding a hint of leopard can immediately add texture to any ‘bland’ outfit. It's timeless, racy enough, and always glamorous.

ü  When in doubt, about what shoes to get, wear nude pumps/flats/wedges. They’re a pretty safe bet. (And they make legs look longer.)

ü  Combining colors, scale, and patterns in a way that looks dynamic takes practice, but there are some basic tricks to getting it right. Conquer your fear of colour & prints. To play it safe, combine a neutral, like grey, with something bolder, like yellow. Also you can wear two prints that repeat the same colors or mix a large-scale pattern with a smaller one.

ü  Invest in accessories, cool shoes, interesting jewelry is the perfect way to elevate your look.

ü  Don’t be afraid to have ill fitting clothing altered. Build a relationship with a tailor or seamstress who knows your body and your taste and you'll never look back. Nothing raises the quality of moderately priced clothes more than having them altered to suit your shape.

ü  ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND, not everything in style is for you. That dress that you saw on someone that looked gorgeous, may not look the same way on you because your legs are longer, or your undertone is different. Be confident enough to know and accept yourself for who you are and you can never go wrong.

Mini make-up haul

Small make-up haul  Hey everyone! I've just started gathering products for my make-up kit and I went out on Saturday and picked up these little beauties *love struck smiley*. I got a chance to use everything so far so I just want to share with y'all my views. The L'oreal true match foundation in W6... umm not my favourite, it's a bit light for me which is weird since the W6 powder matches harmoniously to my skin. I'm hoping it's the tan I got from the beach last week and being out all day Saturday, will definitely give it another chance. Other than it not matching my skin tone it's perfect, it goes on smooth (with the correct brush of course, I used the MAC 188 foundation brush), it's lightweight, gives medium to full coverage and gives a nice 'glowy' finish. I love this foundation, I usually use MAC studio fix fluid but this is a nice cheaper alternative for everyday use. Milani Illuminating face powder in Hermosa Rose.. I cannot get en...

Simple Glam (Night out with the girls)

Hey everyone, club season is back and in full swing in Trinidad and as opposed to carnival the fashion for ‘clubbing season’ as it’s fondly called is two very different things. Let me explain, carnival has a more casual fashion outlook mainly because most of the events are outdoor, the capacity of patrons at one event also the nature of a fete (live performances etc). Club fashion has more of a glamorous outlook because of its indoor nature consisting of ‘little black dresses’, skirts, blazers etc. My first after carnival outfit was this black and white, close-fitting, above mid-knee length, armhole, cotton dress. I immediately fell in love with it because I can dress it up or down. I like unique pieces but I absolutely love clothes that I can dress up or down. I paired it with black pumps (sorry I didn’t get a shot of them). I wore a pair of mid-size silver hoops, a silver ring, white & silver MK watch and a black clutch with silver lining. When going for a glam loo...
