Three factors I consider when choosing an outfit

There are several factors that should be taken into consideration when choosing an outfit for ANY occasion, from a simple mall run to dressing all the way up for a party or wedding etc. These are the three things I take into consideration when putting an outfit together.

  •            All my life I've been hearing my father and most elders say to me ‘know thyself’ and up until a couple years ago I had no appreciation for this statement. In order to choose the accurate colour clothing and jewelry for yourself you have to know things like your undertone and your complexion, for a flattering fit you need to be aware of your physique (dress, pants, skirt and shirt, bra and underwear size) your hair colour, your likes and dislikes and your comfort zone also play a very crucial role when making outfit decisions. These are the things that can make the biggest difference between your outfit looking flattering and a hot flop mess.

  •            What are you attending? Knowing the type of event you are going to narrows down your search for something to wear. If I get invited out by someone, these are one of my first questions. Living on an island gives us options like party, fete, pool lime, beach lime, down de islands (ddi) lime, day or night affair etc. I can honestly say being appropriately dressed is imperative and it also helps with your confidence level; **you don’t want to be the one that shows up to the cocktail party in shorts and flats (my worst nightmare)**

  •            Where are you going? Location of the event is important in helping you choose wisely the appropriate footwear. Let me take a minute to discuss this. This is an issue for me! I don’t know about everyone else but comfort is my priority, because I cannot have a good time if I’m uncomfortable, so I spend hours trying on shoes because we all know that it’s tough to find a pair grown, sexy shoes that’s comfortable. We live on an island and therefore there are a lot of outdoor events, one too many times have I had to witness ladies tripping and falling all over the place. This weekend alone I saw women in wedges at the beach and at Fort George (which by the way has an unpaved hill to climb to get to the destination) and I was so utterly confused. Knowing where you are going e.g. indoor, outdoor etc. puts you in a better position to choose what type of shoes is suitable and what make-up options you have.

These are the three things I take into consideration and things work out pretty okay for me. If there is anything that you can think of that I can add to this feel free to comment below. I would be happy to add to my list.

Mini make-up haul

Small make-up haul  Hey everyone! I've just started gathering products for my make-up kit and I went out on Saturday and picked up these little beauties *love struck smiley*. I got a chance to use everything so far so I just want to share with y'all my views. The L'oreal true match foundation in W6... umm not my favourite, it's a bit light for me which is weird since the W6 powder matches harmoniously to my skin. I'm hoping it's the tan I got from the beach last week and being out all day Saturday, will definitely give it another chance. Other than it not matching my skin tone it's perfect, it goes on smooth (with the correct brush of course, I used the MAC 188 foundation brush), it's lightweight, gives medium to full coverage and gives a nice 'glowy' finish. I love this foundation, I usually use MAC studio fix fluid but this is a nice cheaper alternative for everyday use. Milani Illuminating face powder in Hermosa Rose.. I cannot get en...

Simple Glam (Night out with the girls)

Hey everyone, club season is back and in full swing in Trinidad and as opposed to carnival the fashion for ‘clubbing season’ as it’s fondly called is two very different things. Let me explain, carnival has a more casual fashion outlook mainly because most of the events are outdoor, the capacity of patrons at one event also the nature of a fete (live performances etc). Club fashion has more of a glamorous outlook because of its indoor nature consisting of ‘little black dresses’, skirts, blazers etc. My first after carnival outfit was this black and white, close-fitting, above mid-knee length, armhole, cotton dress. I immediately fell in love with it because I can dress it up or down. I like unique pieces but I absolutely love clothes that I can dress up or down. I paired it with black pumps (sorry I didn’t get a shot of them). I wore a pair of mid-size silver hoops, a silver ring, white & silver MK watch and a black clutch with silver lining. When going for a glam loo...
