Fashion Trends - The inside scoop to wearing print clothing (leopard, floral & tribal/aztec)

It’s 2014 and prints are definitely in, so it’s a smart thing to know how to wear them. Aztec or Tribal, Animal and Floral prints. I don’t think that there are any particular rules but rather some simple guidelines that can be followed to achieve a cohesive look. Having prints in your wardrobe can be very useful as it’s a good way to put together multiple outfits using the same item.

-      First thing to keep in mind when wearing any type of print is ‘Less is more’. Let the pattern be your main focal point.
-
Prints are an easy way to add texture and style to your look, be sure to not clash it with other patterns until you have perfected the art of mixing prints and have the gut to pull it off.  As you advance, you can strategically include other patterns, but tread carefully if you’re just learning.

-          The simplest way to wear print is a one piece printed outfit. (Dress, romper etc.) Of course solid shoe, bag and light accessories will correctly complete this look.

-          When wearing any type of print in pieces its best to pair them with solid colours. Focus on the most prominent color when trying to compliment the other colors in your outfit. There are two ways to pair it you can pair it with a neutral colour or with any colour on the print itself. Prints on prints can be too much if not correctly coordinated and can overpower you.

-          If your prints are bold, tone it down with light accessories and let the print speak for itself. Balance bold patterns with more subtle patterns, and vice versa.

-         Tribal prints can be mixed & matched but I think it’s an art to be perfected. They are better when they don’t match but rather when they are blended well instead.

Some definite don’ts when coming to wearing prints are:
  • Don’t wear two similarly bold patterns of the same scale in one outfit, the outfit becomes too busy.
  • Don’t wear two different patterns of the same boldness and scale; those two items will compete with each other visually
  • Don’t wear the same exact pattern as a top and bottom (unless it’s something like a stripe or check suit).

Mini make-up haul

Small make-up haul  Hey everyone! I've just started gathering products for my make-up kit and I went out on Saturday and picked up these little beauties *love struck smiley*. I got a chance to use everything so far so I just want to share with y'all my views. The L'oreal true match foundation in W6... umm not my favourite, it's a bit light for me which is weird since the W6 powder matches harmoniously to my skin. I'm hoping it's the tan I got from the beach last week and being out all day Saturday, will definitely give it another chance. Other than it not matching my skin tone it's perfect, it goes on smooth (with the correct brush of course, I used the MAC 188 foundation brush), it's lightweight, gives medium to full coverage and gives a nice 'glowy' finish. I love this foundation, I usually use MAC studio fix fluid but this is a nice cheaper alternative for everyday use. Milani Illuminating face powder in Hermosa Rose.. I cannot get en...

Simple Glam (Night out with the girls)

Hey everyone, club season is back and in full swing in Trinidad and as opposed to carnival the fashion for ‘clubbing season’ as it’s fondly called is two very different things. Let me explain, carnival has a more casual fashion outlook mainly because most of the events are outdoor, the capacity of patrons at one event also the nature of a fete (live performances etc). Club fashion has more of a glamorous outlook because of its indoor nature consisting of ‘little black dresses’, skirts, blazers etc. My first after carnival outfit was this black and white, close-fitting, above mid-knee length, armhole, cotton dress. I immediately fell in love with it because I can dress it up or down. I like unique pieces but I absolutely love clothes that I can dress up or down. I paired it with black pumps (sorry I didn’t get a shot of them). I wore a pair of mid-size silver hoops, a silver ring, white & silver MK watch and a black clutch with silver lining. When going for a glam loo...
