The Art of Accessorizing

Just like bad choices of accessories can ruin an otherwise perfectly put together outfit, a knowledgeable choice can make an ordinary outfit fabulous. (It’s easier than you think, trust me) A few simple guidelines to keep in mind while putting your outfit together to make it stand out.

Shoes and handbags are the two most important accessories you will ever own. Choose them carefully. They don’t necessarily have to match as that may lead to a monotonous look; they more so should be harmonized with each other, this usually means ensuring there’s some common element or theme between the accessories and the outfit. (This could be choosing pieces of similar hue, texture, style or design element) Perfect e.g. if you’re wearing a if you’re wearing a light coloured, light weight ‘summer’ dress, you may want to choose a light coloured, strappy sandals rather than a dark coloured, heavy sandals. The same applies to choosing a handbag.

Make your accessories stand out on you. The best way to achieve this is to choose your jewelry according to your undertone. If you’re cool toned silver jewelry/accessories will look better on you. If you’re warm toned, gold jewelry/accessories will stand out better on you. If you’re neutral toned both gold and silver will look fine on you.

Considering your body shape, when accessorizing is another important factor when choosing accessories. Choose accessories in accordance with your body scale. (Body scale assessment takes into account your height, weight and bone structure)

Small Scale – Choose small to medium sized accessories.
Medium Scale – Any size accessories will work for you. (However if you’re short stick to small or medium sized accessories)
Large Scale – Medium to large sized accessories unless of course you’re short.

Choosing shoes - Balance The scale of your ankles and calves as follows:
Small ankles & calves – Choose shoes with thinner soles & heels.
Larger ankles & caves – Choose shoes with more substantial soles & heels.

Using accessories as a focal point, focal points are things that attract attention such as a bright colour or a striking design. The aim is to use focal points to attract attention to your good points and detract from your figure challenges.

A polished appearance is achieved through balance, so don’t go overboard with your accessories or focal points. Too many things to look at, at the same time can appear over done or inappropriate according to the occasion whereas too few can result in a boring look. Two unwritten rules of thumb are three focal points are the maximum for an outfit and if you’re in doubt don’t wear it.

Mini make-up haul

Small make-up haul  Hey everyone! I've just started gathering products for my make-up kit and I went out on Saturday and picked up these little beauties *love struck smiley*. I got a chance to use everything so far so I just want to share with y'all my views. The L'oreal true match foundation in W6... umm not my favourite, it's a bit light for me which is weird since the W6 powder matches harmoniously to my skin. I'm hoping it's the tan I got from the beach last week and being out all day Saturday, will definitely give it another chance. Other than it not matching my skin tone it's perfect, it goes on smooth (with the correct brush of course, I used the MAC 188 foundation brush), it's lightweight, gives medium to full coverage and gives a nice 'glowy' finish. I love this foundation, I usually use MAC studio fix fluid but this is a nice cheaper alternative for everyday use. Milani Illuminating face powder in Hermosa Rose.. I cannot get en...

Simple Glam (Night out with the girls)

Hey everyone, club season is back and in full swing in Trinidad and as opposed to carnival the fashion for ‘clubbing season’ as it’s fondly called is two very different things. Let me explain, carnival has a more casual fashion outlook mainly because most of the events are outdoor, the capacity of patrons at one event also the nature of a fete (live performances etc). Club fashion has more of a glamorous outlook because of its indoor nature consisting of ‘little black dresses’, skirts, blazers etc. My first after carnival outfit was this black and white, close-fitting, above mid-knee length, armhole, cotton dress. I immediately fell in love with it because I can dress it up or down. I like unique pieces but I absolutely love clothes that I can dress up or down. I paired it with black pumps (sorry I didn’t get a shot of them). I wore a pair of mid-size silver hoops, a silver ring, white & silver MK watch and a black clutch with silver lining. When going for a glam loo...
